HANCOCK - A popular Hancock bar is down, but not out, after it was gutted in a fire Tuesday morning.
The Monte Carlo suffered extreme smoke, water and fire damage in the fire, which started around 10:30 a.m., said Hancock Fire Department Capt. Mark Dennis. Firefighters left the scene around 2:35 p.m.
While the building is unusable in its current state, Dennis said the owner plans to re-open the bar.
The fire is believed to be electrical, Dennis said.
"We think it started on the first floor and went up, through the attic and to the roof," he said.
The Hancock Fire Department was assisted by the Houghton Fire Department and the Quincy-Franklin-Hancock Township Fire Department.
Adjacent buildings, including one only a couple of feet away, were not harmed in the fire, Dennis said. He credited the Houghton Fire Department with bringing a "water wall," which sprayed a curtain of water between the buildings.
"We were happy to have them with that device," he said.

This not pointing or throwing any acqusations out, but it sure seems a bit strange how since the economy went to shambles, there have been more and more locally owned buisnesses that have mysteriously bestowed an unexplainable fire outburst. I have my assumptions to these fires, but hey, there only speculations and opinions. You be the judge. Common sense is in all of us, but rarely used among everyone.Draw your own conclusions....
