William R. Heikkila

LAKE LINDEN - William R. Heikkila, 45, a former resident of Lake Linden, passed away Monday, August 25, 2008, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock where he had been a resident patient since this past January.

He was born on June 11, 1963, a son of Robert Heikkila and the late Judith (Naasko) Heikkila. Mr. Heikkila was raised in Tamarack City and was a graduate of the Dollar Bay High School with the Class of 1982. He had resided in Lake Linden for most of his lifetime.

Mr. Heikkila was a veteran, having served with the U.S. Navy.

William was a member of William Giroux Post 90 American Legion in Lake Linden.

He worked for many years as a cashier at the General Store in Houghton and enjoyed following the Green Bay Packers.

Surviving are his children, Nicole Heikkila of Dollar Bay, Beth Heikkila of Dollar Bay; father, Robert Heikkila of Lake Linden, sister, Cheryl (Tom) Monette of Tamarack City; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and a special friend, Carla Mattfolk of Dollar Bay.

A graveside service for William will be held at a later date in the Toivola Cemetery and William Giroux Post 90 American Legion of Lake Linden will hold military rites.
