HOUGHTON - The Hancock Bulldogs won the New Year Invitational at the MacInnes Student Ice Arena, defeating Grand Blanc 6-4.

Scott Kalinec scored the eventual game-winner and Tanner Kero an insurance goal in the last two minutes of the game for the Bulldogs (10-2).

Grand Blanc scored to take a 4-3 lead just 23 seconds into the third period, but Hancock immediately replied. Alex Heinonen lit the lamp just 27 seconds later.

Max Adolphs and Tanner Kero finished with two goals apiece. Devin Kero was the winning goaltender.

The Jeffers hockey team (1-10) lost a heartbreaker Saturday against Escanaba, as the Jets tied the game at 2-2 with 51 seconds left in the game before the Eskymos scored 32 seconds later to escape with a 3-2 win. Casey Collegnon netted the game-winner for Escanaba (6-4-1) to get the win.

The Eskymos got on the board right off the bat, as Ryan Way put the puck past Jeffers goalie Richard Yeshe a mere 25 seconds into the contest. Escanaba added to its lead in the second period with a goal from Josh Miller, but Jeffers' Dave Wesa responded three minutes later with a goal of his own.

The Jets had three power-play opportunities to tie the game in the third period, but the Eskymos killed each one off.

Wesa, however, scored his second goal of the game with 51 seconds left to seemingly force overtime.

Collegnon had other plans, though, scoring with 19 seconds left to get the win.

Joel Kangas had a pair of assists for Jeffers. Escanaba goalie Alex Wyckoff made 14 saves in the win, while Yeshe stopped 21 shots in the loss.
