L'ANSE - Hey sports fans! Are you revved up for football's grandest event?
The Canteen Bar & Grill sure is.
On Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 1, the Canteen Bar & Grill in L'Anse is hosting its annual Super Bowl party and is inviting everyone to come watch Pittsburgh and Arizona slug it out on the big screen. The party kicks off at 6 p.m. and will include door prize giveaways, beer specials and complimentary munchies at halftime.
"There's always so much excitement because you have some people cheering for one team and others cheering for the other team," manager Dianne Gallagher said. "Everyone has a good time."
Dianne, who also bartends at the Canteen, said she will be handing out door prize tickets to people as they come in the door and they must be present to win. There is no cover charge.
"We've got some distributor's mirrors that we will be giving away," she said of the prizes. "There's a really nice Red Bull one."
Drink specials include $1.25 16-ounce draft beers. The beers on tap are Bud Light, Molson Canadian and Michelobe Golden Light.
At halftime, the Canteen Bar & Grill will be dishing up finger-foods like hot dogs and brats, as well as offering a variety of dips, salads and other snacks.
Karen Nelson, of Skanee, will be baking the Super Bowl cake.
All specials will continue until the game is over.

The Super Bowl party is just one of many events the Canteen Bar & Grill hosts during the year, owner Mick Herter said.
"We have our annual Ice Fishing Tournament coming up Saturday, Feb. 28," he said.
The tournament will be held from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Registration forms and rules are available at the Canteen Bar & Grill and must be submitted by 9 p.m. Friday, Feb 27. The entry fee is $15.
"All entry fee money is given out in prize money," Dianne said. "You can register at any time. Also, we will be having a pre-tournament meeting on the 27th for people to sign up then, if they want."
Weigh-in time will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. followed by a complimentary dinner provided by the Canteen Bar & Grill.
"We have a great turnout every year, as long as there's ice," she said.
Cash prizes will be awarded to those who place first through sixth and door prizes will be given to every entry.
Herter, who lives and works in the downstate area, has owned the Canteen for the past eight years. Whenever he gets a chance, he said he likes to drive up for a visit.
"I come up a couple times a month because I've got property up here," he said.
The Canteen Bar & Grill is located at 9 S. Front St. in downtown L'Anse. Overlooking Lake Superior and the marina, the Canteen is easily accessible to snowmobilers in the winter and boaters in the summer.
Open seven days a week, the Canteen Bar & Grill offers daily menu specials, including a Friday Fish Fry and Mexican Day Wednesday.
"That's what we're most noted for," Dianne said.
The Canteen also delivers lunch specials in the local area. Orders must be a $20 minimum.
On the entertainment side, the Canteen Bar & Grill brings in a disk jockey Saturday nights and occasionally has live music.
On Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, they will be hosting a Valentine's Dance from 9:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. Music will be provided by DJ Express. There is no cover charge.
Local band, Old Number Seven, will be performing at the Canteen April 18 during the "Birthday Fun Run" event.
"There's a couple bartenders and a few regulars who share a birthday around the same time, so we came up with a combined birthday bash," Dianne said, adding she was one of the birthday girls. "Everyone is welcome to come."
