HOUGHTON - Time sure flies when you're having fun.

So is the case for Baby Belle-tique owner Leanne Wilson, who in March will be celebrating her second successful year in business.

"We've grown quite a bit more in this past year. We've been doing really well," she said with a bright smile. "We are always looking to add new and affordable lines."

Baby Belle-tique, located at 902 Razorback Drive in Houghton, is a unique find for shoppers, particularly new and expecting mothers, grandmothers and others looking for that one-of-a-kind baby shower gift. The upscale resale boutique carries children's, teen, maternity and ladies' clothing along with shoes, accessories, toys, gifts and locally crafted items.

"We pride ourselves on being a store that carries clothes in excellent condition," Leanne said. "We're the only store to offer something like this. We fulfilled a niche in the market."

Several of the lines that Baby Belle-tique carries - Baby Belle Maya, PediPed footwear, Elegant Baby, Burt's Bees natural products, among many others - are lines that can't otherwise be found locally. And, many of them were requested by the customers.

"They've come to Baby Belle-tique asking if we could look into bringing some of these lines to the local area which we have," Leanne said. "We get that a lot."

To mark her second successful year in business, Leanne is holding an anniversary sale March 3 through 7 during regular business hours (11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday).

"Come and celebrate with us," she encouraged. "We're offering a lot of good deals for consumers."

The anniversary sales include: Circle skirts buy one get the second 40 percent off; all shoes 20 to 50 percent off; and buy four items of clothing, get the fifth item free. Other in-store specials will be offered.

In these economic times, Leanne says she's happy to be able to offer some relief for newly expecting parents because her prices are reasonable.

"Shopping here is a great way for the consumer to stock up and save money," she said.

Since Leanne opened Baby Belle-tique (named after her 2-and-1/2-year-old daughter, Annabelle) March 3, 2007, she's expanded the shoe collection to offer more variety.

"We have a lot more shoes for baby through toddler sizes," she said. "The PediPed shoes are a great seller. They continue to sell out really fast."

Also popular is the Moby Wrap. Made of 100 percent cotton and spanning 5.5 meters in length, the Moby Wrap uses the entire back, as well as shoulders, to carry the weight of the baby.

"It can wrap around your body in many different ways," Leanne said. "You can carry your baby in front or back. It's been a good seller."

Handmade swaddling blankets, pilot caps and stretch receiving blankets have been a hit as well, Leanne said.

"I have a group of girls that do some sewing for the store. They're very talented," she said.

In addition to the blankets and caps, they make dresses and stylish diaper bags in a variety of vibrant colors.

Near the entrance of the store are a collection of "Modest Moms" cover-ups for nursing mothers.

"They have a rigid neckline so that mom can view baby while nursing," Leanne said. "It works well for mothers on the go."

Anyone wanting to bring items in for consignment can do so during regular business hours. Baby Belle-tique accepts children's clothing, footwear, toys, miscellaneous baby items, as well as ladies and maternity clothing.

"We ask that your items be gently used to new condition," Leanne said.

Garments must also be freshly laundered, season appropriate and free of holes, stains, pet hair and deep creases or wrinkles. Customers will receive 30 to 40 percent of the selling price for their items depending on the brand and condition.

Additional items, such as highchairs or swings for example, are also accepted as long as the item has little wear.

Leanne said she's looking forward to celebrating more anniversaries down the road while providing unique items for locals at reasonable prices.

"We've definitely been doing well and I expect it to keep going that way," she said.
