PAINESDALE - Clyde M. Smith, 69, of Painesdale, passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2009, at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette, where he had been a resident for the past several years.

Clyde was born on Feb. 8, 1940, in Trimountain to Alva and Verna (Linna) Smith. He was a graduate of Jeffers High School, class of 1958.

Clyde was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1958 to 1960. He worked as a mason for various contractors in the area including Herman Gundlach and Thomas J. Moyle Contracting.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Marian "Sis" Erickson.

Survivors include four daughters, Kelly (Brian) McLean of Houghton, Tracy Smith and friend, Frank Pouttu, of Chassell, Beverly Smith of Houghton, Kimberly (Jason) Marx of Gladwin, Mich.; two sons, Eric (Shelly) Smith of Fishers, Ind., Jon (Elizabeth) Smith of Grand Rapids, Mich.; 14 grandchildren, Samuel, Alex, and Katelyn McLean, Travis and Alaina Latvis, Charlotte and Lucy Anderson, Jason, Hope and Jake Smith, Tika, Alex and Kelsey Marx, and Talia Smith; a sister, Betty (Robert) Mattila of Painesdale; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 9, 2009, at the Mountain View Mortuary in South Range.

Graveside services with military rites will be held in the spring at the Mountain View Cemetery in South Range.
