Apartment B&E in Houghton

HOUGHTON - The Houghton Police Department is investigating a breaking and entering at the construction site of the new apartments on College Avenue on Wednesday morning.

Officers were called to the scene at 7:45 a.m. for a report of a breaking and entering. Upon arrival, they found the perpetrators had also started a structure fire which was already out. Officers later learned there wsa a gas leak due to a gas line being damaged. It is believed that the incident occurred between 2 a.m. to 4 a.m. yesterday morning.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call to Houghton Police Department at 482-2121.

Sure hope they catch the person. Anyone that is capable of doing something like that shouldn't be walking the streets. Scary for the workers I am sure..

broke in.. busted the glass off all the light bulbs.. and broke the gas line open... guys get there for work in the morning and turn the lights on and BOOM!!! the exposed filaments glow and burn out. But not before sparking the gas. At least thats the idea.. thats what really happend.. DMG needs to get the facts..

What's the incentive of breaking into an empty building? Sounds kind of strange. Probably some drunk delinquent tech kids looking for some fun. Perhaps an initiation ritual for a frat?
