CALUMET - DeForge Auto is at it again.
On Saturday, May 9, the Calumet business is hosting its annual Spring Car Care Day, offering free maintenance inspections for motorists from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
"We inspect 36 of the most critical parts of the vehicle at no cost," owner Ed DeForge said. "Our main concern is their safety. If we find something that needs to get fixed, it's up to them where they get it repaired. We just want to make people 'Car Care' aware. That's the number one reason we're doing this."

Certified technicians will inspect front-end components for wear and tear on ball joints, tie rod ends, shocks and struts. Other check points include fluids, belts, brakes, hoses, tires, lights and windshield wipers. Child safety seat inspections and safety belt inspections will also be provided.
"That's something new we're doing this year," DeForge said of the seat belt inspections. "A lot of people don't realize if they're not wearing their seat belts right, they can get hurt."
Each inspection typically takes 10 to 15 minutes and complimentary hot dogs, baked goods, coffee and pop will be served during the event Saturday.
"A number of businesses help to make this a success," DeForge said, listing Pat's Foods of Calumet, Copper Island Printing of Calumet, and Auto Value of Houghton and Calumet as the sponsors. "We're going to have savings coupons for customers to use at Pat's IGA of Calumet on hand. All of our sponsors make it possible for us to do this."
Mother's will also be recognized Saturday.
"We're going to be handing out carnations for Mother's Day," said Brad DeForge, who runs the business with his father.
Having completed vehicle inspections for customers during prior Car Care events, Brad said, "You'd be surprised at what we find."
"What we'll do then is we'll go through the list of any problems we find during the inspection with the customer," he said.
DeForge Auto has been hosting the Car Care event for going on three years and it's always a successful turnout.
"Our average is about 79 cars," Ed said. "Stop by for the fellowship and chat with other people. It's an all-around good time for everyone."
Family-owned and operated for more than 25 years, DeForge Auto specializes in major and minor automotive repairs on foreign and domestic vehicles. From computer diagnostics and front-end alignments to suspension repairs and oil changes, no job is too big or small for the guys at DeForge Auto.
"We've got 80 years of combined experience in the shop and we use only the latest in technology and equipment," Ed said, adding their newest mechanic is Doug Guy, who brings 25 years of experience to the business. "If we can't fix it, it ain't broke."
DeForge Auto is home to the $19.95 oil change, which includes a 21-point inspection and free car wash.
"We'll beat anyone's prices on general automotive repair," Ed said. "Most parts come with a lifetime warranty."
Additionally, each vehicle that enters the garage for service gets hand washed.
Customers can pick up their DeForge Auto window decals which also offers discounts, Ed said.
"If you keep our sticker in your window, for every $100 of service, we'll give you $10 off," he said. "I've been told they've been seen in Florida, Nashville, Denver ... all over the United States."
