ROTC Majors win in walk-off

HANCOCK - Nick Harris hit a walk-off triple for Michigan Tech ROTC to score Aajay Bennett and clinch a 2-1 win over The Library in Major (ages 11-12) division baseball Wednesday at Hancock Driving Park.
The win was set up by a two-hitter from ROTC pitcher Tristan Foltz.
Then, with 'last raps' in the sixth, ROTC strung together consecutive singles by Bennett and Cody Clement, then Harris' walk-off heroics.
Gabe Rupright and Zack Simons had one hit each for the Library.
At Gipp Recreation Area in Laurium, Peterson Funeral Homes pulled away down the stretch to defeat Aspirus Keweenaw 7-3.
Nick Oja went 3-for-3 in the victory. Alex Voelker earned the mound win, pitching into the fifth, and combined with Tyler Rautio on a three-hitter.
In Minor (9-10) softball at Chassell, Portage Home Health and Hospice's Colleen Toorongian struck out 17 batters and allowed no hits in a 5-0 win over Warm Rain.
PHHH broke a scoreless deadlock with a two-run single by Meagan Kemppainen. PHHH completed the scoring in the fifth on an RBI hit from Delaney Heinonen and a two-run double by Kaitlyn Sander.
Kemppainen and Meg Hokenson had multi-hit games for the winners. Morgan Farrell and Julia Nordstrom combined on pitching duties for Warm Rain, totaling eight strikeouts.
At Lake Linden, Midwest Loan brought the big bats for a 17-2 win over Copper Range Abstract and Title.
Midwest jumped out to a 5-0 lead after one inning thanks to a Peyton Gast double and base hits from Shayla Cornish, Carli Ongie, Kendra Keranen and Elle Rowe. Vivica Nelson then rapped a two-run homer to make it 7-0 after two. Midwest Loan then scored five runs apiece in the third and fourth innings.
Rowe, Keranen, Ongie and Cornish all had three-hit games in the win, while Rowe was the winning pitcher, fanning four in three innings before handing off to Ongie, who struck out two in her inning of work.
