BARAGA - A sleek new taxi service just rolled into town.
L.L. LYNX Transport of Baraga, on Monday, expanded its service area to include Houghton and Hancock.
"We've been receiving numerous phone calls asking why we're not up here and telling us to please come and provide our service here as well," owner Lori Ann LaFernier said. "Therefore, we became available to people and visitors of Houghton and Hancock on Monday."
LYNX Transport is an upscale door-to-door taxi service that takes customers wherever they need to go, in town or out of town, at affordable rates. The business maintains a fleet of black, shiny cars and SUVs that are always clean and in top mechanical repair. Some of the vehicles are four-wheel drive for safe transport in inclement weather.
Lori said they currently have six chauffeurs on staff and will undoubtedly be hiring additional others in the near future.
"Every chauffeur is carefully selected and must meet or exceed our very stringent criterias before being hired and after being hired to drive our customers," she said. "We pride ourselves on our professional, licensed and uniformed chauffeurs."
On top of providing taxi services, LYNX Transport also offers a prompt, inexpensive vehicle lockout service during regular business hours.
Customers shouldn't be fooled by LYNX Transport's appearance of luxury. The cost for a ride is equal to or oftentimes less than what someone might expect to pay for a taxi in the local area. Riders can expect to pay under $7 for most rides.
"We simply believe our customers deserve to ride in clean, comfortable, nice looking and safe vehicles with only the most courteous chauffeurs they can trust," Lori said. "I think our level of service and professionalism is what sets us apart from any competition we may encounter. Our prices are the same, and in most cases, less. But the service we provide is unbeatable."
On Friday, LYNX will show two of its transport vehicles in the annual Bridgefest Parade, including a float titled "Bridging the gap between the people and places of Houghton and Hancock."
Customers can find them on the Web as well by visiting lllynxtransport.com.
Lori opened LYNX Transport in Baraga County in January, realizing there was a need in the community for public transportation.
"There was no public or privately owned transportation system available in the entire county," she said. "The response from the community has been excellent. The thank yous and well wishes make it all worth while."
Since they've opened their services to Houghton and Hancock, the response has been positively overwhelming.
"We received more calls and made more transports in the Houghton/Hancock area on our very first day than we made in Baraga County," Lori said. "We would like to thank you for all for your business and let you know how much we appreciate it."
To say "thank you" to the customers, LYNX Transport is always offering some sort of perks with customer rewards.
"Things we've done in the past include: every 100th rider gets a $100," Lori said. "We had a game called '21' where every 21st rider won $50. Now, we have '5,6,7 STOP!' If the last digit of the odometer is on 7 when we reach your destination, you will be entered into a drawing for $250."
The winner of the drawing will be selected July 3.
LYNX Loot is also available.
"It's our Monopoly money so to speak," she continued. "Frequent customers can purchase LYNX Loot and save dramatically on the cost of routine rides."
Customers who may need frequent rides to work or school are encouraged to ask about LYNX Transport's hardship application. Eligible customers can get a ride to and from school or work on a regular basis for less than the cost of the drive themselves.
Businesses and institutions can also take advantage of the savings.
"Talk to us and see what savings might be available," Lori said. "These are hard times for everybody and its costs absolutely nothing to ask us to draw up a quote."
Carpooling services are also available.
LYNX Transport guarantees customers safe, friendly and affordable service no matter where they need to go.
"If a person wants a ride to the casino in Baraga, needs to go out of town for a doctor's appointment or even if a few friends just want to go shopping in Green Bay ... never assume it's too expensive," Lori said. "Give us a call and we'll see what we can do for you."
L.L. LYNX Transport is located in Baraga. Business hours are 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. (last call) Monday through Saturday; and 3 p.m. to 12 a.m. Sunday. Customers should be aware that the phones close at 2 a.m., however if they place their call beforehand, LYNX Transport will usually wait for bar closing when possible.
