EAGLE HARBOR - Dorothy Geraldine Futrell, 84, a resident of Our Lady of Mercy in Hubbell, passed away at Portage Hospital on June 24, 2009. She formerly resided for many years in Eagle Harbor.

Dorothy was born on October 29, 1924, to the late Rufus and Wilda (Sebring) Parsons. As a child, she loved hunting with her father, ice skating and spending time with her dogs and pet raccoon, Sandy. She graduated from River Rouge High School.

She married Richard Futrell on June 28, 1947. He preceded her in death on October 22, 1997.

All her life, Dorothy loved animals. She owned horses, dogs and cats. She had a way with animals and always had a dog for a companion. Dorothy was a talented artist. Her beautiful paintings were inspired by the local scenery and wildlife.

She was preceded in death by her son, David Futrell; and her sister, Kathryn Futrell.

She is survived by her son, Dana (Marlene) Futrell of Calumet; seven grandchildren, Pattie (William) Luokkanen of Mohawk, Jeanette (Ronald) Racine of Calumet, Danny Futrell (Megan Hembre) of Verbena. Ala., Annie Futrell (John King) of Mohawk, Richard Futrell of Mohawk, Amanda (Michael) Galetto of Hancock, Laura Futrell of Fulton; six great-grandchildren, William and Ellie Luokkanen, Jacob and Ayla Boles, Benjamin and Brady Galetto.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2009, at 12 noon in the Erickson Crowley Funeral Home in Calumet with Rev. Lloyd Leo Luedeman to officiate.

Friends may call at the Erickson Crowley Funeral Home in Calumet on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12 noon.
