Dennis A. Carlson

BIRCH RUN, Mich. - Dennis A. Carlson, 66, of Birch Run, died Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at Covenant Medical Center.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, July 27, 2009, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1415 N. Center Rd., Saginaw.

Friends may call at the church on Monday from 4 p.m. until time of service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, March of Dimes or the American Heart Association.

Dennis was born Dec. 26, 1942, in Detroit, the son of the late Herman and Ethel (Hella) Carlson. He was a graduate of Hancock High School. He had resided in the Birch Run area since 1985.

Dennis married Susane Eastman on Aug. 24, 1963.

He earned his bachelor of science degree in Education at Northern Michigan University.

He was a teacher for 40 years, 30 of those at Clio High School.

Dennis was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He volunteered for the Flushing Band Boosters and the Birch Run Athletic Association. Dennis enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, woodworking and spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Susane; children, Sean (Kim) Carlson of Hemlock, Eric (Elizabeth) Carlson of Frankenmuth, Laura (Allan) Dollaway of Williamston, SaraJane (Paul) Larsen of Saginaw, Jared (Luisa Maria) Carlson of Birch Run, Joshua Carlson of Ill.; 18 grandchildren; sisters, Shirley (Gordon) Kytta of Negaunee, Elaine (Dan) Mattson of Kenai, Alaska; and many nieces and nephews.

Dennis was also preceded in death by three brothers, Roger, Ronald and Edwin.
