Lyman K. Oja

MOHAWK - Lyman K. Oja, 72, a resident of Waverly, Iowa and former Mohawk resident, went to his Heavenly home on July 29, 2009, at the Shell Rock Nursing Home in Iowa.

He was born on November 27, 1936, a son of the late Theodore and Edith (Heikkinen) Oja. Lyman graduated from the Calumet High School and later, obtained his bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan Tech and a master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Ohio State.

He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army.

On October 12, 1963, he was married to the former Kathleen Crandall in Milwaukee, Wis.

Lyman worked in the engineering business for International Harvester in Chicago, for AC Spark Plug working on the Polaris Missile, Allis Chalmers in Milwaukee, National Coil in Columbus, Ohio, and for Anchor Hocking in Ohio. He also worked as a self employed contract engineer until his retirement in November of 2007.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Fenton.

Surviving are his loving wife, Kathleen; daughter, Jeanne (Richard) Tocco of Waverly, Iowa; two grandsons, Matthew S. Tocco and Andrew S. Tocco.

All who loved him dearly promise to really try hard to become better golfers.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 2, 2009, at 2 p.m. in the Erickson Crowley Funeral Home in Calumet with the Rev. Ken Toth to officiate.

Friends may call at the Erickson Crowley Funeral Home in Calumet on Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
