Watch for school children
School's in session throughout our area - and that means local motorists need to adjust their driving habits.
Slowing down in school zones, after the summer months in which children were not present there, is an adjustment. Drivers must watch for stopped school buses, children getting on and off, other children walking to school and even a stray ball from the school's playground.
These are adjustments which have to be made. Just a few seconds' inattention while driving past a school can result in not noticing a child who darts across the street in front of your car. Forgetting that a school bus stop lies around a curve can result in an accident and injured youngsters.
During the next few weeks, many school teachers will be telling children, "Vacation's over. Pay attention!" The same goes for motorists - who have a responsibility to keep our children safe.
