Obama right to protect jobs here

POSTED: September 23, 2009

"Protectionism" is likely to be a topic of conservation this week at the G-20 meetings in Pittsburgh. We will not be surprised if U.S. representatives are urged to avoid starting a "trade war" by safeguarding American industries against unfair competition from abroad.

Representatives of the world's 20 biggest economies will be in attendance at the Pittsburgh meetings. It goes without saying that in terms of international trade agreements, all will be jockeying for position to protect industries and workers in their nations.

Just a few days before the G-20 meeting was scheduled to begin, President Barack Obama's administration announced that it was taking action to safeguard U.S. producers of vehicle tires against unfair business practices used by their competitors in China. Beijing promptly reacted by slapping limits on imports of American chicken to China. That raised fears of an escalating "trade war" between our two countries.

But it is the president's responsibility to safeguard American workers against unfair trade practices by foreign companies and countries. Too often in the past, that has not been done.

Obama was right to back American workers and businesses, and should not back away from other trade measures intended to protect the jobs here in the United States.

Democrat controlled congress and white house have passed, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Minimum wage, Federal Reserve Act, Dept of Education, National Endowment for the Arts, "assault" weapons ban, Brady background check....need I continue?

Oh, Bill Clinton attacked Iraq in '98 without a Declaration of War, just like Bush did...wasn't to many protesters then, but then again, the media loves Democrats. Then in '99 he went into Yugoslavia without a Declaration.

One reason there are 2 justice systems IS because of the constitutional violations. Those violations have granted the government and congress WAY to much power. They've written the laws to protect them, much like Chavez has done in Venezuela.

That is why we must all demand that our representatives follow a strict reading of the Constitution, and fight for ALL rights, even if they are ones you don't necessarily agree with

what did the dems do to the constitution compared to the repugs? back up what you say. what could they get prosecuted for? when they break the law they should be prosecuted to the full extent. if they don't, then we know for sure that there are 2 justice systems. 1 for the ruling class and 1 for the rest of us. america is decaying because of the powerful who wipe their a** with the constitution. if we rewrite our history books for the children and tell them how it really works we might have a chance. but as long as we keep feeding them on fantasy land and ideals that nobody lives up to, were doomed to keep repeating the same crap.

3MountainGirl, I almost agree with you. Bush and his "chicken hawks" spent 6 years trashing the constitution, and then when the democrats took over in '06, they've been trashing it. Now that Obama's in the white house, they've put the pedal to the metal.

If you know darn well what the Constitution says and how it's abused, then why are you always supporting politicians that have no problem wiping their behinds with the Constitution?

3MOUNTAINGIRL

yesiree indeed, our rulers have always adhered to the constitution, never busted any treaties, never broke any of the ammendments. king george and his chicken hawks just got done shredding the constitution for the past 8 years. so don't school me on the constitution. i know darn well what it says and how it is abused by the powers to be. right now rumsfeld is looking over his shoulder and i hope they prosecute him to the full extent of the law.

just like a faux news fanboy. don't answer my remarks but personally attack me instead. who's the crybaby. as to the constitution, funny, they were slave owners who made their fortunes on the backs of slaves. how about all the robber barons who had help from their cronies in gov't. chinese slaves being brought over to build our railroads. don't give me any crap about how they all made it purely on their own. subsidy's,extracting wealth from federal lands for penny's on the dollar. kick people off the land and take it for yourself when it's found to be valuable while the gov't helps. all socialism for the well connected and well off.

3MountainGirl, If you're so educated, then you know exactly what the founding fathers intent was for our country right? You've gone and read as much as you can about what their intentions were?

If so, and if you believe that the Constitution is the law of the land, then there is no room for government to be funding Social Security, Medicare, Stimulus bills, bailouts, Nat'l Flood insurance program, nationalized healthcare, etc etc etc.

Or, you haven't done your research, you don't believe the Constitution is the law of the land, and all the above mentioned programs are o.k. But, if this is the case, any law government passes should be fine with you. Whether it's 100% taxation, genocide, or forced slavery. Because, if you're so willing to throw out the Constitution on some rights, you must be willing to throw it out on all.

3MOUNTAINGIRL, The sub-prime mortgage mess was caused by the Carter/Clinton "Community Reinvestment Acts" It forced banks to issue loans to poor people, many of which couldn't afford to pay it back once the interest rates reset. These loans were backed by Fannie & Freddie.

1 republicans was stating in 2002 that this would lead to a housing crash, but nobody listened. To that extent, I blame the republicans as well. They didn't do anything to fix it, or even want to do anything until they lost the congress. It was Rep Frank who last July said that there was nothing wrong with Fannie and Freddie. Him and Sen Dodd refused to hold and investigation into what was going on in those two GSE's. Had they allowed it to happen, the housing crisis may have been averted, or at least softened the blow.

It was this forced regulation that brought down the housing industry, not deregulation. The republicans are just as guilty because they didn't eliminate it when they were in

TruePatriot, some word definitions change over time, so when reading the Constitution we should either use a dictionary common at the time it was written, or look at what the founders intended by reading what they said.

Since I believe the Constitution is the supreme law of the land, and that our politicians should abide by it doesn't mean that slavery would still be legal. Where do you get that from. The 13th Amendment was CONSTITUTIONALLY ratified, and as part of that amendment it says that "Congress shall have the power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation."

So laws barring segregation, ownership of people etc are constitutional. So you're way off the mark with that comment

Riutta1966

Ummm! TruePatriot It's was the Democrats caused it just as I posted the facts Bush warned congress about fannie & freddie!& Clinton also warned congress the same thing his party ignored him and Cox fell asleep at the Wheel!so that caused the economy to collapse like a house of cards! So I REPEAT it's doesn't matter who's fault it is! It's both sides! Money, power & secret handshake! One note Clinton had the chance to kill Bin Laden! he was too busy with something else! The real facts is in the pudding!and the democrats is mishandling the war you can't do this and that it put our troops in danger we are losing lots of good men & women!

Adventure, look up the definition of welfare in the dictionary. If it was up to your definition of the Constitution, this country would have never become the great nation it is and we would still have slavery. Riutta, its funny how you can blame the democrats for the meltdown of the economy when it started on Bush's watch. He is also the president who had 3 failed businesses and his oil company had to be bailed out by the Bin Laden family. As always, he has been a day late and a dollar short. Just as he mishandled the 9-11 attack, the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, Huricane Katrina, the economy, and everything else he touched. He had the opposite Midas touch.

3MOUNTAINGIRL In the nutshell it doesn't matter who's fault it is it's both sides money, power & secret handshake! so expand your mind and get back to reality until you finally get it! Career Politicians both sides can't even run this country! this country is bankrupt!

TruePatriot, read the quotes of the founding fathers. It is evident that they wanted the government to have limited powers.

After reading that, do you still believe that our government can constitutionally mess with healthcare?

3MOUNTAINGIRL. Since you haven't heard a peep from me about Bush, I'll tell you now. No Child left behind act, Medicare prescription drugs, Patriot act, and the War in Iraq are all unconstitutional. I don't agree with them. Same goes for the Republicans minimum wage hike, infact the whole minimum wage law is unconstitutional. Does that make you feel better?
