I responded to a letter that falsely gave the opinion that Christians believe the earth is billions of years old. I described how the generations from Adam to Jesus had been counted one by one so that we would know the age of the earth is only 6,000 years old. It is amazing to me how many people told me they disagreed with my letter.
Look, you are not disagreeing with me, you are disagreeing with God. These are not my words or my opinions, they are God's. If you don't believe God's words, than you don't believe that God is God, and if you don't believe that God is God, than you don't believe in God. Make up your mind whether you believe in God or not.
Let's review this one more time. First, God created the earth in six days, verse 1, nothing happened on earth before that. There was no earth. During those six days, Adam was created. Then God lists the generations one by one. There are about 2,000 years from Adam to Abraham, and 2,000 years from Abraham to Jesus and about 2,000 years from Jesus until now. According to my math teacher in 3rd grade, that makes 6,000 years.
I also explained how the seven-day work week is based on God's seven-day work week in creating the earth. He tried to be so clear. He said, and then there was night and then there was morning.
When Jesus said in the New Testament that a day was like a thousand years, He was trying to explain why God hasn't returned for us yet, that it hasn't really been that long. You really think He meant, Oh by the way, when I created the world, I meant 7,000 years, not seven days, and the genealogies were lies?
God gave us common sense and we are supposed to use it. That's what He meant when He said He created us in His image. We can think and reason like He can, unlike the animals.
Anyway, go ahead and disagree all you want. Also, think of your explanation for disagreeing with God when you are standing at the Pearly Gates. Here's one: "But God, the Grand Canyon is way too big for you to have created it in one day." Try that one, see how He likes it.
