Now is the time for all good men and women to come to the aid of their neighbor. The suffering in Haiti after last week's devastating earthquake is hard to fathom and far from over.
Tens of thousands of people are dead, many more are injured. Family members are lost and separated from each other. There is great sadness and fear for the future.
Water and shelter are in great need, as well as medicines and the help of medical personnel.
President Barack Obama enlisted the help and gravitas of former presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton over the weekend.
U.S. troops have been deployed to the country to offer aid and help keep the peace as looting is always an unfortunate possibility when essentials are in short supply.
The National Football League, the National Basketball Association and NASCAR have joined the effort to raise funds for the relief effort.
Hollywood, Nashville and Broadway's brightest stars will surely join in as a Haitian Relief Telethon is planned for Friday night at 8. The list of television networks signed up to show the event keeps growing and includes: ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CNN, BET, the CW, HBO, MTV, VH1 and CMT.
Many relief organizations including The Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders, UNICEF, The Salvation Army, CARE, World Vision and others have answered the call. The Web sites of all of these organizations and many others have directions on how to give. It can be as simple as a quick text message.
But as everyone lines up to get involved, the most important person in the effort is you. Money is needed to help supply the most basic needs of the Haitian people and every donation, no matter the size - $5, $10 - will help.
That's the key thing here: To help.
Please consider giving to the the relief effort of our Haitian neighbors.
