DOLLAR BAY - Jed Wuebben has always loved snowmobiling and has been riding for years. It was his enthusiasm for the sport that prompted his latest business venture, the opening of Dollar Bay Motor Sports.
Located on Upper Point Mills Road, just outside Dollar Bay, the shop offers parts and service for sleds both older and newer, and much more.
Wuebben, who also owns and operates his own construction business, Wuebben Construction, is excited about the new business.
Dollar Bay Motor Sports employees, from left, are Neil Marietta, Ward Wuebben, Jordan Wuebben, Jed Wuebben and Baron Wuebben.
"My construction business tends to slow down a bit in the winter months, which gave me the opportunity to start up this one," he said. "It's something I've been thinking of doing for a few years now."
Wuebben added that he will continue to operate his construction business year round.
The business inventory was purchased from Neil Marietta, owner of the former Bunker Hill Recreation.
According to Marietta, he was ready to retire and kept bugging Wuebben to buy his business. Weubben did just that, and moved the inventory to his property in Upper Point Mills, where he built the office and shop facility himself. Dollar Bay Motor Sports officially opened for business last week. Marietta is staying on temporarily to help the transition run smoothly.
The business features repair services, parts and accessories for all types of snowmobiles. They carry all the trail-side necessities like oil and belts, but also have a big inventory of sled parts for all makes and models, both old and new.
Wuebben added that he can also order parts for snowmobiles and most likely may have them in his shop by the next day.
"We know that there are a lot of choices out there for parts and accessories," Wuebben said. "We just hope folks will give us a try before they oder from an Internet site. We essentially have all the same products and prices. This way you get the product faster, and can get help and advice when it arrives."
In addition, Dollar Bay Motor Sports offers complete rebuilding service for gas shocks and is the only shop offering precision clutch balancing for snowmobiles in the area.
Dollar Bay Motor Sports can also take care of all parts and service needs for dirt bikes, street bikes, Harleys, personal watercrafts, ATVs, UTVs, boats and recreational vehicles.
Pickup and delivery service is available.
As for staff, Wuebben didn't have to go far. He's employed his two brothers, Baron and Ward, as mechanics. A nephew, Jordon, works as a shop hand, and Jed's wife, Katie, works in the office.
The business is accessible by road or snowmobile trail.
Located about a half mile from Trail No. 3, Dollar Bay Motor Sports is easy to find.
"There is direct trail access. Just turn off Trail No. 3 east of Woodside and follow the signs," Wuebben said.
"We also have a bright blue sign on Upper Point Mills Road," he added. "We're easy to find."
Dollar Bay Motor Sports is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. They will be closed on Sundays.
