MARQUETTE - Several locally-based Nordic skiers completed one of the races in the Noquemanon Ski Marathon Saturday in Marquette County.
The best overall finish to come out of the Copper Country was a seventh-place in the 51-kilometer freestyle from Houghton's Tom Wood, who completed the course in 2 hours, 21 minutes and 44.6 seconds. Three other locals were within the first 100 to cross the finish line in that race: Paul Lyle of Chassell (74th, 2:50:28.7), Wendy Sharp of Atlantic Mine (85th, 2:52:27.1) and Craig Hughes of Hancock (90th, 2:54:07.4).
Sharp was seventh among all women who completed the 51-k freestyle.
In the 51-k classic, Brian Carlson of Hancock took 17th in 2:42:15.6, while Troy Kinnunen-Skidmore of Calumet was 40th in 3:00.59.4.
Joan Rundman of Hancock was 66th in 3:19:49.5 and Rima Carlson of Hancock took 95th in 3:39.03.5. The pair were fifth and sixth among women in the long-distance classic race.
In the half-Noque (25 kilometers) freestyle race, Arnie Kinnunen of Laurium took ninth in 1:07:13.3. Scott MacInnes of Houghton was 49th in 1:19.01.9
In the 25-kilometer classic, Steve DeLong of Calumet took 20th in 1:29:01.4. Bob Richards of Houghton came in 92nd at 2:00:34.0.
