HANCOCK - Finlandia goaltender Stephanie LaMore did all she could to keep her team in its game with Wisconsin-Superior Sunday afternoon.
LaMore, who had 46 saves in a 2-0 loss Saturday, made another 46 saves in the series finale.
But no matter how many saves a goaltender makes, a team can't win if it doesn't score. And that's exactly what happened to LaMore and the Lions in game two.
The Lions failed to give LaMore any offensive support and dropped a 3-0 decision to the Yellowjackets.
"She kept it 0-0 for a lengthy time and even 1-0 for a lengthy time," Finlandia coach Heather Reinke said of her goaltender. "She's seeing the puck well.
"She's standing up for us. She's giving us a chance to win in each game and that's what you want to see out of a goaltender."
LaMore made 16 stops in the first period and followed that up with 18 more in the second. Her best save came on a point-blank shot from Jasmine Pollock near the midway point of the second.
But Superior kept the pressure on and had Finlandia tied up in its own zone for most of the period. The constant pressure finally paid off when Jodi Holland scored on the power play to put Superior in front 1-0 heading to the third.
"We struggled on our breakout today, and not because we couldn't do it," Reinke said. "We had the right spacing and the right thought process. We just couldn't execute."
Holland then put the game away herself by completing the natural hat trick in the third. Holland scored the game-winner, her seventh of the season, with just over seven minutes remaining in the contest.
The Lions will play at Wisconsin-Eau Claire this coming weekend.
