L'ANSE - The village of L'Anse has a new logo after the Downtown Development Authority completed its logo design contest.
Monday at the village's regular meeting, the village council adopted the new official logo, which was created by Casey Koski, a Seattle resident who is originally from Baraga County.
"It looks great, it's very clean," Village Manager Bob LaFave said. "It hints at the water we have and it is something that will look very good on our letterhead and as a logo on village trucks and other things."
The contest began late last year. The village awarded cash prizes to the top submissions.
"There (were) around 30 submissions," LaFave said.
The council also passed a resolution to pay for engineering services with the Community Development Block Grant acquired for the CertainTEED project.
"The request was for the design services for January and February," LaFave said. For January that was $13,908.14 and for February $9,988.41.
"This is to help retain 109 jobs and create 33 more," LaFave said.
The agreement was made during the summer of 2009, and improvements to the infrastructure around the plant will continue throughout the year.
In other business the council:
passed a resolution to pay engineers for a portion of the sewer project, with $2,487.72 going to U.P. Engineers & Architects out of Houghton and $114,855.94 going to Danielson Contracting of Baraga.
approved a developers agreement for sewer work up to the new hospital that is being constructed along U.S. 41.
