GREEN BAY, Wis. - Michael Makela, 45, of Green Bay, died unexpectedly Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at his home.
He was born May 21, 1964, in Hancock, to George and Lillian (Moilanen) Makela.
Michael graduated from Gillet High School with the Class of 1981.
He was employed at Sanimax for the last 12 years as an operator.
He was an avid motocross rider and was a standout hockey player.
Michael was engaged to be married to Michelle Van Lorynen.
He enjoyed life and especially enjoyed the time spent with his family.
Michael is survived by his fiancee, Michelle Van Lorynen; two sons, Christopher Makela and Joshua Makela; his stepchildren, Christopher Gervais and Tabitha Krause; his father and stepmother, George L. and Rose Makela of Oshkosh; his mother, Lillian E. Makela of Green Bay; a sister and brother-in-law, Sabrina and Mike Ziegeweid of DePere; aunts and uncles, Jack Haataja, Roger and Gayla Haataja all of Grand Rapids, Lori and Mike Wisti of Mason, Tom and Geri Lowe of Coronado, Calif.; many other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; and an uncle, Stephen "Sonny" Haataja.
Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., Green Bay, from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Patrick Green officiating.
A memorial fund has been established in his name.
