Man shoots gun in Ontonagon

March 24, 2010
By GARRETT NEESE, DMG Writer

ONTONAGON - A 62-year-old Ontonagon man was arrested after firing a weapon in Ontonagon Tuesday afternoon.

At 4:53 p.m., the Ontonagon County Sheriff's Office received a call that the man had fired two shots on east Conglomerate Street. Officers cordoned the area off.

Witnesses described a potential suspect - a man with a white beard loading a long gun.

Officers searched the area and detained a suspect. After witnesses identified the 62-year-old man as the one they saw earlier, he was taken into custody.

Charges are still pending against the man.

Sheriff John Gravier said why the man shot his gun, or if he was firing at anything, is still under investigation.

The prosecutor was contacted for a search warrant for a home on east Conglomerate Street. Gravier said the man's son was living at the house.

As a result of the warrant, a 24-year-old Ontonagon woman was arrested at 10:23 p.m. and charged with manufacturing marijuana.

Assisting the sheriff's office were Michigan State Police troopers from the Wakefield Post, Ontonagon and Ewen detachments and Sonco North Ambulance.
