HOUGHTON - For the ladies at Keweenaw Consignment, everyday is like Christmas.
"We get to open boxes and we never know what we're going to find in them," owner Kathy Homola said. "There are new things coming in all the time."
This week marks Kathy's one-year anniversary in business and to celebrate, she's serving up snacks and refreshments and offering coupon discounts Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

"We're going to have coffee, cookies, balloons and we're going to be giving $1 off coupons with each purchase," she said. "Being that it's been one year, we want to celebrate."
The three-day anniversary celebration will take place during regular business hours. However, on Good Friday, Keweenaw Consignment will close early at 3 p.m. Customers are welcome to drop in and put their name in a drawing for a $25 gift certificate. The drawing will take place Monday and customers need not be present to win.
Located in the Copper Country Mall, Keweenaw Consignment specializes in the upscale resale of furniture, clothing for infant through adult sizes, books, toys, household items, shoes, sporting goods, tools and collectibles. Maternity wear, scrubs, bridal wear and men's suits can also be found at Keweenaw Consignment.
"We keep everything displayed in an organized way so that it's easy to shop," Kathy said. "And we're constantly rotating our inventory to keep it fresh."
Near the checkout counter, is a collection of jewelry as well as a display of designer purses and hand bags.
"We've got Louis Vuitton, Coach, Gucci," Kathy said. "They're always changing because they sell pretty fast."
Customers are allowed a one-box limit per month for consignment (preferably in season for clothing items) and consigning hours are 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday through Saturday, or by appointment. For furniture items, consigning hours are after 1 p.m. daily.
For customer convenience, Keweenaw Consignment can be accessed from the front parking lot for drop off.
"We have a marked door at the front of the mall where customers can pull right up," Kathy said. "The door is located behind the half wall next to JC Penny."
Reciting her store's motto, Kathy said Keweenaw Consignment is, "the store where everyone wins."
"We have an income, the people consigning get an income and the shoppers who come in get a good deal," she said. "We've got a lot of wonderful stuff at really great prices."
Kathy first opened Keweenaw Consignment in the Portage Plaza in Houghton April 6, 2009. Having outgrown the space, Kathy said they had to move and were fortunate to re-open in the Copper Country Mall.
"We doubled in space and we absolutely love it here," she said, adding they employ a staff of 12. "They have been very accommodating to our needs."
A lot of times, customers drop in Keweenaw Consignment looking for a particular item. In that case, Kathy keeps a book for customers to leave their contact information in case the item arrives.
"Or customers can give a call to see if we have something they're looking for," she said. "Purchasing a lightly used item can save customers a lot of money verses buying new. So check with us first."
Keweenaw Consignment is located in the Copper Country Mall at 47420 U.S. 41 in Houghton. Business hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Closed Sunday.
