LAKE MEDORA - A Chicago woman was killed and three more people were injured in a Saturday afternoon car accident in Keweenaw County.
A Nissan Altima driven by Na Li, 29, of Chicago was headed southbound on U.S. 41 near Lake Medora when Li lost control on a road and struck a tree.
Huimin Han, 33, who was in the back seat, was pronounced dead at the scene. Passenger Yuhua Sun, also of Chicago, was treated at the scene; Mercy EMS transported her to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium and then to Marquette General Hospital in Marquette. She was listed in serious condition this morning.
Li was treated and released from Portage Health along with fellow passenger Lu Yifan, 34, of St. Joseph, Mich.
Speed may be a contributing factor in the crash, said Keweenaw County Sheriff Ron Lahti; alcohol is not believed to be. All four were wearing seat belts.
The sheriff's office is still investigating the incident. Assisting them at the scene were the Michigan State Police, Copper Harbor First Responders, Copper Harbor Fire Department and Calumet Township Fire and Rescue.
