HOUGHTON - Bryant Froberg's goal with just over a minute left in the game gave L'Anse a thrilling 5-4 victory over Jeffers in hockey action Monday night.
The goal by Froberg, his second of the third period, was one of just five goals scored by the two teams over the final 17 minutes. L'Anse's Joe Richard had the first goal of the period to level the score at 2.
The Jets regained the lead on a goal by Travis Wesa at the 11:05 mark. The tally by Wesa started a flurry of five goals in the last six minutes of the contest.
A goal by Alex VanWagner knotted things up again at 3. Froberg then netted his first goal of the frame to put the Purple Hornets in front 4-3.
That lead would last less than two minutes. Cory Jokela's goal at the 14:21 mark tied the game again at 4 and set the stage for Froberg's game-winner.
Jeffers had taken the lead heading into the third on a goal by Matt Zerbst. Both teams scored once in the opening period.
A goal by VanWagner at 12:16 gave L'Anse a 1-0 lead. The Jets came back to tie the score for the first time on a power-play goal by Travis Therrian with just 45 seconds left in the first period.
