CALUMET - After much anticipation, the communities of northern Houghton County will be getting a two-for-one package in senior care services.
Garden View Assisted Living & Memory Care is now open and proudly announces its ties with Northridge Pines Assisted Living, which has proudly brought 11 years of outstanding care to community residents and families.
Linette Abb, longtime executive director of Northridge Pines, will be bringing her compassion and skills to both communities.
Garden View Assisted Living & Memory Care in Calumet is now open. Garden View offers 21 assisted living suites and 20 memory care suites, one of which is shown.
"I am so excited to be in this position," said Abb, who will be the nurse and executive director for both communities. "I get to share my experiences and knowledge at both communities. Most people go to work everyday; I go to grandma and grandpa's home."
Garden View, which is located in the former Stillwaters facility, will be offering quality of life for individuals with Alzheimer's and dementia.
"Our memory care is different than most because it is not a nursing home or part of a nursing home," said Linette. "We are also much more cost effective than a nursing home."
Garden View will be focusing on the individual and their special needs.
"We make everyone special and every event special," Abb commented. "Events such as move-ins, birthdays and Veterans Day will be honored by special dinners with families and the community. Life is meant to be celebrated, as are the great memories of someone's life. We want to set goals with our residents and help them to achieve them."
The staff at Garden View all have had extensive training in caring for those with dementia and understand that the needs of each resident are as unique as the resident themselves.
Janis Vivian feels Garden View offers the right balance of living for residents.
"Our community will offer just the right amount of assistance, while being aware of the individual resident's specific needs," she said.
Vivian, who is working under the direction of Abb, has a diversified role between managing and marketing the communities.
"There is wonderful care at both communities," she said. "Northridge has long been known for their long-term, dedicated staff."
Many of the staff have been trained to work at both communities.
"Our goal is to provide that continuum of care," Linette said. "Residents who may no longer qualify for assisted living care now have the peace of mind knowing they don't have to necessarily move or get used to new staff. In a small community like ours, we are blessed to have such positive care options."
Garden View is professionally managed by Senior Housing Management from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Senior Housing Management specializes in Senior Housing in the Midwest. They are partnering with Peregrine Management from Syracuse, N.Y., who are directly managing Northridge Pines.
"This partnership between the two communities and management companies is going to provide the very best senior care in the area," explained Allison Law, vice president of operations with Senior Housing Management. "We are excited to be working together to bring our expertise to the Calumet seniors."
Garden View offers 21 assisted living suites and 20 memory care suites.
