MILWAUKEE - Jeffers' string of success continued Saturday at the Wisigan Cup as the Jets defeated Monroe, Wis., 8-3.
Travis Therrian had a hat trick, but four other Jets combined for five goals in the decisive second period as Jeffers busted open a game in which it had a 2-1 lead.
"We rolled our lines pretty quickly, focusing on short shifts and high intensity, and I thought we got them tired and just kept doing it," Jeffers coach David Bekkala said.
Therrian scored both Jet goals in the first period and was followed up by Dano Goldsworthy, Matt Mantta, Matt Zerbst and a pair of goals from Chase Daavettila.
Goldsworthy and Daavettila had two assists apiece, while Dylan Sever made 26 saves in net. Jeffers is at Dee Stadium Tuesday to play Houghton.
L'Anse heavily outshot both its opponents at the Wisigan Cup Friday and Saturday, but came away with just a single point.
The Purple Hornets tied 5-5 with Monroe, Wis., in the nightcap of a doubleheader Friday night and fell 4-2 to Milwaukee SHAW Saturday.
L'Anse (4-8-1) led 4-3 after two and 5-4 in the third period before giving up a shorthanded game-tying goal with about five minutes remaining.
"We had the puck behind the goalie, in the crease, we just couldn't get to the rebounds. It was just one of those games where we couldn't finish," L'Anse coach Bill Rosseau said.
Shots were 33-16 in favor of L'Anse.
Saturday, SHAW got the first goal of the game until the Hornets responded in the second period on tallies by Carter Hendricks and Dylan Hemmila. However, the hosts racked up three straight goals to conclude the period and held L'Anse off the scoresheet in the third. L'Anse outshot SHAW 38-20.
Kodi Jahfetson was the goaltender of record in both contests.
The Purple Hornets' home game against Hancock originally scheduled for tonight has been bumped back to Thursday.
Hancock bounced back from its Friday loss at the Sault Lions Invitational to defeat Pontiac Notre Dame Prep 6-1 in the consolation game. More details were not available.
The Bulldogs (11-5), who mercied Negaunee 9-1 last Thursday, will play at L'Anse this Thursday.
