President Barack Obama on Wednesday opted not to release photographs of Osama bin Laden's body, and that is certainly the right decision.
As proved by the release of his long form birth certificate, no matter how much proof or evidence is shown of an event, there will still be doubters.
A recent IBOPE Zogby poll found that 16 percent of likely voters still doubt Obama was born in the United States, despite a long form birth certificate, a newspaper announcement and a standard short form birth certificate. A mere photograph of the body of someone who appears to be bin Laden will not change any minds.
People who believe bin Laden lives on will state the photograph is a fraud or a body double. Those who think bin Laden was buried at sea will say the photograph proves their point. And the photos, which are likely graphic in nature, will only incite more hatred from those angered by bin Laden's demise.
Although many may clamor for the photograph's release, the Obama administration has done well to realize the cons outweigh the pros in this situation.
