Gartners Gallery celebrates lighting gallery grand opening

June 22, 2011
The Daily Mining Gazette

HANCOCK?-?When Gail and Mark Johnson purchased Gartner's Furniture and Floors in June 2010, their vision from the beginning was to create a full-service home store that can handle all kinds of home projects at all levels of affordability.

And, with the grand opening of their lighting gallery and expanded and remodeled carpet showroom, they've done just that.

"It was important to us from the very start, that we cater to all types of customers," said Gail Johnson, an interior designer. "Not everybody can afford to remodel an entire room at once, or to purchase a full room of furniture."

Gartners Gallery’s newly remodeled storefront for the flooring and lighting showrooms. The storefront is located on Reservation Street in Hancock.

In fact, most do not," she added. "We've made it a priority to carry the high end, the low end, and what's in between."

This is apparent when you see the new lighting showroom.

"We are excited to introduce the Copper Country to our lighting gallery," Gail said. Gartners is the only store in the area to offer a gallery, with a wide range of products that customers can see on display.

"This is very important when it comes to lighting, because people need to visualize what the fixture will look like in their home. This is not so easy when you're looking at a picture on a box or in a catalog," Gail explained.

In addition to the lighting gallery, Gartners Gallery has also remodeled and expanded their carpet and flooring showroom. They carry a full range of products from hard surface to carpeting, now all on display.

According to Don Berger, flooring manager, this works very well for customers.

"We are able to carry more in-stock carpeting and flooring, which allows for quicker service for our customers at less cost," Berger said.

Gartners still offers custom ordering for flooring, but having more inventory on display, helps people make their decisions more easily.

Both galleries have a new entrance on Reservation Street. For weeks, the Johnsons have been remodeling the front of the store to get it ready for this grand opening.

"Re-opening this entrance will make it easier to shop the flooring and lighting gallery," Gail said. "More accessible parking is available on the street and in the alley, and lets customers avoid the steps inside," she added.

"The opening of the flooring and lighting galleries is another step in realizing our dream," Mark Johnson said.

In January 2011, the Johnsons also purchased the Gartner Building, which faces Quincy Street in Hancock. The Johnsons are currently offering retail and office space in that building.

"There is a lot of opportunity there," Mark said. "The City of Hancock has been very helpful in trying to get us tenants. Having businesses on that side will only bring more attention to Gartners Gallery and to the City of Hancock."

Some other changes that are noticeable around Gartners Gallery and around town are their very colorful delivery trucks. The Johnsons purchased one new truck and had the new and old trucks "wrapped" to create beautiful moving billboards.

"My son Jordan and I designed the artwork and Industrial Graphics did a wonderful job on the trucks," said Gail. "We get compliments all the time. It's fantastic advertising that can be seen everywhere."

The Johnsons are very happy with the successes they've shared since purchasing the store.

"It's a work in progress, but we are grateful to have such loyal customers and invaluable employees that bring it all together," Gail said. "Julie Paulson has been in the office for 25 years and can answer most questions on the phone, or direct you to someone who can."

"Our warehouse and delivery staff, Gerry Karry, Fran Beaudoin and Lucas Hodges offer their knowledge and reliability to our customers," Gail added.

Currently Gartners Gallery has two full-time designers available, including Katrina Aho.

"Katrina has an amazing amount of experience," Gail said.

Aho moved here from Chicago, where she worked 12 years as a designer.

"Her kitchen designs have been featured in magazines. She can help you with remodels or upgrades and is knowledgeable on tile work and lighting," she added.

Glenn Perrow is Gartners Gallery's resident expert on window treatments.

Glenn can help with selection, measurements and installation of their Graber product line.

"Glenn also heads up our bedding department and has an incredible amount of knowledge of our Sealy products," Gail said.

This includes Sealy's newest line of memory foam and latex beds.

"Tracy LeClaire has been a sales associate here for six years and offers her expertise in all departments, and with our full range of products and brands," Gail said.

To celebrate the grand opening of the flooring and lighting galleries, a big sale is in progress.

"We are offering great deals on flooring and featured lighting," Mark Johnson said. "We really want people to come out and see what we've done, and what we can now offer. I think the public will like what they see."

The Grand Opening sale runs through the end of June. The store will be open late tonight and Thursday until 8 p.m.
