CALUMET - One of the most requested acts at the Calumet Theatre, pianist Bob Milne, will return once again for a performance at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
A self-dubbed "ragtimist," Milne is one of the most acclaimed ragtime/boogie-woogie pianists in the world.
He has played for presidents, kings and queens and will grace the Calumet Theatre stage as part of the Musical Mondays series.
"He's one of the greatest ragtime piano players in the world," Calumet Theatre Artistic/Technical Director Davey Holmbo said. "He concentrates on playing the music of the Ragtime Era, with the likes of Fats Waller."
Although Milne has played the theatre numerous times, Holmbo said the ragtimist brings a completely different show for every performance. Coming off last July's "America" show, Milne will opt for a different concert this time around.
"Every time he visits he throws in something different," Holmbo said. "He always comes up with some sort of surprise, and adds something that really wows the crowd."
Milne plays a wide variety of music, whether a Missouri classic rag, a knockout boogie or a traditional song like "Wabash Cannonball," according to a press release. However, it is not just his music that makes his concerts enjoyable, according to Holmbo.
"He's a great storyteller as well," he said. "The concert is educational in the fact that you get a lot of history about ragtime. His stories are quite whimsical and humorous."
Tickets are available by phone or by visiting the Calumet Theatre Box Office. Box office hours are noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 2 1?2 hours before showtime. For more information, call the Calumet Theatre Box Office at 337-2610 or check the web at calumettheatre.com and at facebook.com.
