HOUGHTON - Sarah Vertin of Hancock and Edward Vertin of Laurium announce the engagement of their son, Joel Christopher Vertin, to Melissa Ann Becker, daughter of Karen and Ron Becker of Rhinelander, Wis.
Joel is a 2002 graduate of Calumet High School and earned his bachelor of science degree in business from Michigan Technological University in 2008. He is currently pursuing his MBA at Michigan Tech and expects to graduate in 2013. Joel is employed by Michigan Tech.
Melissa is a 2001 graduate of Rhinelander High School and earned her bachelor of science degree in biology-pre-med from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in 2005. She went on to graduate with a master's degree in medicine as a physician assistant from Western Michigan University in 2008. She is employed by Portage Health.
A June 16, 2012, wedding is planned at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rhinelander.
The couple resides in Houghton.
