HANCOCK - Tom S. Greenlees, Hancock area businessman, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2012, following a lengthy illness, in Mars Hill, N.C., while visiting family.
Tom was born and raised in Pittsburg, Penn., a son of the late Walter and Catherine Greenlees.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and served the Great Lakes area. During the time in service, he befriended Joe Sayen, and with that friendship, he settled in Hancock following his discharge.
Tom founded the Hancock Bike Shop 46 years ago. Over the years, he became a business and community leader, building many businesses and personal friendships. More recently, he enjoyed spending time in the summers at Wyandotte Hills Golf Club and wintering in Florida.
Surviving are his loving wife, Charlotte; his son, Steven (Lisa) Greenlees; his daughter, Connie Nichols; his grandchildren, Ryan, Tyler, Alissa, Alex, Josh and Kyle; his loving sister, Becca (George) Schmidt of Mars Hill, NC.
A service for Tom will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2012, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Hancock with Licensed Lay Minister, Clay Hilman to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock.
Friends may call in the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 8 from 4 until 8 p.m.
