MOHAWK - Janet E Dube, 80, formerly of Mohawk, died January 30, 2012, in Woodstock, Ill.

Janet was born Nov. 25, 1931, in Detroit to Herve and Mayme Dube. She was raised in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and spent most of her childhood in Allouez.

Janet married Ralph Sandretto in 1949 and they had three children together, David (Diana) Sandretto, Pamela (Michael) Ross and Gina Rickerd. They spent the early years of their marriage in the U.P. and moved to Waukegan, Ill., where they raised their children.

She was a loving mother and a devoted homemaker, with a gift for baking, including delicious homemade pies, cakes and breads that were enjoyed by family and friends. She was also very gifted in writing and poetry, which will be shared at her memorial. She will be remembered by her warm, compassionate, youthful nature and her amazing sense of humor and charm.

After her children were grown, Janet returned to the U.P. (Michigan), and later moved back to Illinois when her health began to weaken. She spent the past five years at Valley Hi Nursing Home in Woodstock, Ill., where she received very loving care. She came home for weekly family visits and kept strong connections with her family, especially her grandchildren for whom she had unconditional love.

In addition to her children, she is survived by her grandchildren, Melanie (Walter) Johnson, Myles, Brooke and Trevor Rickerd, her great-grandchildren, Logan and Madelyn Johnson, her siblings Rita (Michael) Gemignani, Edward Peter (Kim) Dube, Joan Schutte, Elaine Alatalo, William (Tinka) Dube and James Dube, her very special friend, Glen Liikila, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her infant brother, David.

Family and friends will honor Janet in a celebration of her life during a memorial in Michigan this summer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Valley Hi Nursing Home 2406 Hartland Road Woodstock, IL 60098-9763 (815-338-0312).
