HOUGHTON - No matter what anyone else thought of the Super Bowl halftime show last week, from where Dan Salo from Houghton was sitting, it was fantastic.

Salo won two tickets to attend the Super Bowl through "Live it with Charter" by Charter Communications, a contest he's happy he took the time to enter.

"It was great," said Salo, who took his wife to the game with him.

Salo won the tickets three weeks before the game, which was Feb. 5 in Indianapolis. The couple scrambled to find plane tickets, which were paid for through the contest, and attended their first-ever Super Bowl.

"Once we got to Indianapolis and got downtown, it was fantastic," he said. "They're professionals down there. They know hot to put on an event."

The cost of the hotel was also covered through the contest and the couple arrived at the game early to check out their seats, in the 23rd row near the end zone.

"When I got the email saying I had won, at first I thought it was a scam," he said. "I made some calls and checked it out and it was legit so we started the planning process."

Salo said the game was so much more than expected and the halftime show was thoroughly entertaining. And even though they were sitting in the end zone and didn't have the best view of the halftime show, the Salos enjoyed the experience to see Madonna perform live.

"We basically watched it on the Jumbotron," he said.

Salo said the best part of the experience was that the game went right down to the wire and the crowd was left sitting on the edge of their seats.

"Whenever they were on our end, it felt like you were in the thick of things," he said. "It was definitely a cool experience."
