Peterson shows strength in snow drags

February 24, 2012
The Daily Mining Gazette

SIDNAW - Atlantic Mine's Derek Peterson took home the title in four different classes during snowmobile drag racing held at the Sidnaw Airport last weekend.

Peterson took all but one stock class (Stock 500, in which his Polaris 600 was ineligible), displaying familiar dominance. He set a Mid-America Snow and Terrain Expert Racers racing circuit record in the 2011 event by winning six classes.

Peterson's win in the Open Stock class earned him a $500 prize.

However, in the Top Gun feature, it was East Lansing's Cam Howie who defeated runner-up Jerry Buschell of Calumet and Peterson.

Buschell won the Mod 700 class ahead of Peterson and the Open Mod class ahead of Rudy Vincent of Iron River and Peterson.

Jim Johnson of Skanee was a double local winner, taking the Mod 500 and Mod 600 classes.

Racing continues this Saturday at the Iron County (Mich.) Airport.
