Choice catch in Chassell

Big fish and small frys at VFW?tourney

CHASSELL?- The sixth Annual Ice Fishing Tournament sponsored by Chassel VFW and Copper Country Walleye Association on Portage Lake and Chassell Bay last Saturday weighed in some whoppers.

Tyler LaDuron, L'Anse, won the big fish award when a 42.25-inch, 20.9- pound shovel-nose northern took a shine to his shiner on a tip-up in 17 feet of water. Jim Trewartha weighed in the biggest walleye with a 10.05-pounder he hooked on a Swedish Pimple tipped with a minnow.

The popular tournament attracted a record turnout of 272 registered anglers, 190 adults and 82 kids.

Kids Tourney:

1. Carmen Hamstra, 7.65 lb walleye

2. Zach Palosaari, 4.25 lb northern

3. Jacob Elenich, 3.90 lb northern
