Y swimmers take on state meet

BROWN DEER, Wis. - Several local swimmers took top 10s in their age group at the YMCA state meet last weekend.

The Copper Country Killer Whales, a subset of the Marquette County Killer Whales swim team program, sent 10 swimmers to the event. Four Killer Whales notched team-best sixth-place finishes.

Also, Olivia Rouleau took eighth overall in the girls' 100 breast and 1000 free and ninth in the 400 individual medley.

Tessa Meyer took sixth in the 100-yard butterfly within the 9-10 girls' division in a time of 1 minute, 20.75 seconds. She also had a ninth in the 200 individual medley and a 10th in the 200 free.

Archer Olson took a sixth in the 25 fly in the boys' 8 and under division, finishing in 19.39. He also had a 10th in the 100 medley.

James DeClerck and Daniel Shonnard combined to notch their sixth as part of the Killer Whales' 800 free relay team. DeClerck also had a seventh individually in the 1,000 free and a 10th in the 500 free.

Samuel Fang took 10th in both the 100 medley and 25 breast for 8 and unders.

Samantha Olson was ninth in the girls' 9-10 200 medley.

Also helping the Whales were Alex Monette, Kevin Beaghan and Hannah Gundlach.
