WATTON - Ronald A. Maki, age 61, of Watton, passed away Monday, March 26, 2012 at Marquette General Hospital where he had been a patient.
He was born in Highland Park, Mich., on May 24, 1950, the son of the late Arthur and Eva (Pelto) Gronval. Following his parent's death, Ron was adopted by Ernie and Laina (Laturi) Maki.
Ron graduated from L'Anse High School in 1968. He married the former Linda Hokkanen in L'Anse on March 23, 1989.
He attended Northern Michigan University. Ron worked for the Baraga County Road Commission in Covington Township as a truck driver.
He had been a member of the Army National Guard. He was a Covington Township volunteer fireman, a member of the Covington Amvets and the "Vedder Crew" Camp.
Ron loved NASCAR, morel hunting, bird hunting, brook trout fishing and golfing. He was an avid Detroit Lions fan. Ron had a great sense of humor and enjoyed life.
Mr. Maki is survived by his loving wife, Linda; special nieces and nephews; his beloved dog, "Winston."
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Michael.
Funeral services for Mr. Maki will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 30 in the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse, with Pastor Mark Reinsch officiating. Interment will take place in the Covington Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the funeral chapel on Friday from 11 a.m. until time of services. Following the services, friends are invited to join the family for fellowship and a luncheon at the Covington VFW.
