Exciting season of hockey

April 14, 2012
The Daily Mining Gazette

To the editor:

Wow. What an exciting season of hockey our family experienced. We have a sophomore who played for the Calumet Copper Kings and a Squirt who played for the CHA Ice Kings-Mohawk Legion.

I would like to thank: Coach Crawford, Coach Patrick, Sean Jacques and Todd Lightfoot. Thanks also to Mr. Pierce and the CLK Board of Education for acknowledging Eric's Academic All State award. Coach Patrick, I hear the extra time you gave the team in the locker room after our last loss of the season was invaluable. Thanks Mr. Perreault for the awesome pictures of our son. With one injury for the season, we are forever grateful to the team trainer, Dorothy Jamison. I will say it again, "You are an asset to the team." To Dr. Peer at Portage Health, your passion and expertise are assets to our community. We were very impressed with your knowledge and the great care received.

Our decision for Alex to play "house" hockey for the CHA was a great success. We would like to acknowledge the coaches of Mohawk Legion's hockey team. Thank you to Coach Larson, Coach Adam Loukus, Coach Keith Jenich Jr. and Coach Josh Loukus. Coach Larson, we are truly impressed with your coaching style. You would have to see it to believe it. The passing this young team exhibits would make one think these players were older than squirts. The team consisted of eight skaters and a goaltender. Most teams we played had three lines. Our team got lots of ice time and learned how to communicate to each other on the ice. All our coaches were positive role models and each of them kept his composure on the bench. Mohawk Legion was crowned Yeo Memorial Tournament Champs, Calumet Hockey Association House Champs and Inter City Champs. Lastly, thanks to Commander William Hannon and the Mohawk Legion for your monetary donation. The team enjoyed a pizza party to end our successful year.

Looking forward to the 2012-13 season.
