Michigan Technological University civil engineering students Andrew Scipioni and Sarah Reed, both of the Michigan Tech American Society of Civil Engineers, clean up a 2-mile section of U.S. 41 in Franklin Township Saturday afternoon. Their efforts contributed to a statewide Michigan Department of Transportation Adopt-A-Highway spring cleaning that involved 3,200 volunteers on 7,200 miles of highway between April 14 and 22, the first of three litter pick-up periods slated for this year through the program. The next two pick-ups are July 14 to 22 and Sept. 22 to 30.
