Free speech threatened

April 26, 2012
The Daily Mining Gazette

To the editor:

I am an older American taxpayer who is so disgusted with certain educators and elected officials in Houghton County for using all of their power to ban/stop free speech.

My family has been listening to Rush Limbaugh for more than 20 years, and never has he stated a skewed opinion on any subject. He researches more than any other speaker I have ever heard. Face it, the truth hurts many times and free speech is becoming a threatened commodity.

If, in fact, WMPL bans Rush Limbaugh from its radio program, I personally will circulate a petition to every Christian in Houghton County to turn off this potentially Marxist radio station. Also, if the hearsay is true and a Houghton commissioner is leading the march to stop free speech, I will petition for his removal from the board.

We must fight for our First Amendment rights and stop the self-righteous individuals who have a hidden agenda from our hearing the truth. Since when does a little education and an elected position give anyone the right to take a position contrary to our constitution?

WMPL, please do not allow this small minority to stifle our free speech rights. You are listening to people with a pronounced anti-American agenda and freedom of any scope is being overtly threatened. Let the marketplace dictate whether these individuals should be on the air.

Thank you for listening to my concerns.
