LAKE LINDEN - Margaret Chmela, 84, of lake Linden, died Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at Our Lady of Mercy Health and Rehab in Hubbell where she'd been a resident for the past five years.
She was born in Allouez on March 10, 1928, daughter of Onnie and Esther (Erickson) Lahti and attended the local schools.
Margaret moved to Detroit as a teenager and worked most of her life as a secretary for Sears Roebuck. She retired in the early '90s and moved back to Lake Linden.
She was a member of the Laurium Apostolic Lutheran Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents; a son, Raymond; a daughter, Patricia Krans; a brother, Warren; a sister, Dorothy Hill.
Surviving are a daughter, Bonnie Neibel; three brothers, Bill and June Lahti, Roy and Janet Lahti and Ralph and Luella Ryti; a granddaughter, Michelle (Matthew) Zani; two grandsons, Eric and Tom; two great-granddaughters, Mya and Mena; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A private memorial service will be held in the Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet with Pastor Travis Seppala officiating. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery in Calumet.
