CALUMET - Jean Minerva Thomas, 89, a resident of Calumet, passed away on Friday, April 27, 2012, at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Calumet.
She was born on May 7, 1922, in Michigamme, a daughter of the late Axel and Jennie (Haataja) Carlson. After attending the Calumet schools, she married Wilbert Thomas on July 27, 1940. He preceded her in death on June 8, 1977.
Jean worked for Calumet Electronics for 13 years, from 1962 to 1974. She enjoyed going out to eat at various restaurants, playing the lotto, shopping and singing with her sisters.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers Davis and Albert Carlson, and two sisters Verna Peterson and Eris Juvingo.
Surviving are a son, Loren (Marlene) Thomas of Baraga; a special friend, Wilfred Wiitanen of Calumet; four grandchildren, Jay Thomas, Kurt Thomas, Katherine (Sam) Benford and Gabriel Waskiewicz; six great grandchildren, Alex and Ashley Thomas, Hailey and Emma Thomas, Samantha and Ellis Benford.
A funeral service will be held at noon on Thursday, May 3, 2012, at the Erickson Crowley Funeral Home with Pastor Kenneth Toth to officiate.
Friends may call on Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon at the funeral home.
