Skiers benefit from partnerships

May 2, 2012
The Daily Mining Gazette

To the editor:

I would like to thank the Michigan Tech Nordic Ski Club for another year of sponsoring our Adaptive Skiing and Snowshoeing program. Needless to say it would not be possible to have such a successful program without their unbelievable support.

They provided the skis, snowshoes, and trail usage free of charge for our weekly sessions for participants with Developmental Disabilities from the Copper Country area.

Blair Orr and Mike Abbott went above and beyond with their support and giving spirit. Thank you to the students in the wax room for your patience and assistance; your kindness did not go unnoticed.

I could not have offered the program without our volunteer ski/snowshoe coaches. I cannot express enough how grateful I am to you for giving your time, patience, and energy to provide so much enjoyment to our participants. You have changed their lives by teaching them a new skill and sharing your love of the outdoors during our Upper Peninsula winters.

Another component that helped make the program so successful this year was our partnership with Copper Country Mental Health.
