Martha Lantto

MOHAWK - Martha Lantto, 89, a resident of Mohawk and lately at Garden View in Calumet, passed away on Saturday morning, May 5, 2012.

She was born Oct. 23, 1922, in Eveleth, Minn., a daughter of the late Gust and Esther (Kero) Simila.

Martha moved to Mohawk as a young child and lived there until she went to work in Lower Michigan.

She graduated from Calumet High School with the Class of 1942.

She was married to Reino Lantto in 1942 and he preceded her in death in 1963.

Martha worked as an office manager for the Michigan State Police Departments in Livonia and Northville posts. In 2000, Martha moved back to the Copper Country to make her home in Mohawk.

She was a member of the Mohawk United Methodist Church.

Preceding her in death were her husband; two sons, James and Robert; brothers, Edwin, Charlie, Eino, Uno and Oiva; and a sister, Esther.

Surviving are two sisters, Mary (LeRoy) Kotila of Bloomington, Wis., and Mayme (Buckshot) Jurmu of Mohawk; brother, Art (Julia) Simila of Calumet; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at 11 a.m. in the Erickson Crowley Funeral Home in Calumet with Rev. Bob White to officiate.

Friends may call at the Erickson Crowley Funeral Home on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
