To the editor:
I am writing in response to the criticism Hancock Superintendent Monica Healy and the Hancock Board of Education have been receiving from a group of concerned parents. At the last board meeting, a parent was quoted as saying that she is, "disappointed in the behavior of Monica Healy and feels Healy consistently stretches the truth in her favor and is not completely forthcoming with parents."
I have known Monica Healy for many years. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Monica. I have never known her to be anything but honest and forthcoming. Monica is a very down to earth, open minded person, willing to talk to anybody. I feel it is unfair for this concerned parent group to criticize somebody who they only know through board meetings . Get to know Monica, talk to the staff at the schools, talk to other parents, and talk to the students. I know Monica has a lot of supporters.
As far as the board goes, I don't personally know anybody on the Hancock Board of Education, but give them a break, too. What a thankless job they have. I am sure they put a lot of time, effort, and hard work into trying to better the district in these most difficult of times for all schools. I would like to thank all school administrators, teachers, staff and board members for all of their hard work.
Remember the saying; don't judge a man until you have walked a mile in his shoes? Maybe this concerned parent group should walk a mile in Monica Healy's and the board of education's shoes before judging them so harshly.
