Tree sale help appreciated

May 19, 2012
The Daily Mining Gazette

To the editor:

The Houghton Keweenaw Conservation District Board and staff would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our customers and volunteers who made our annual tree sale a success. This is our major fundraiser of the year and helps accomplish many conservation district programs in Houghton and Keweenaw counties.

First and foremost, a big thank you to more than 210 individuals and families who purchased trees, plants and shrubs. The district is here to serve you and we greatly appreciate your interest and participation. Thanks also to those people who "rounded up" and made an extra contribution to HKCD.

The district would not be able to accomplish such an enormous task of separating bulk nursery orders into individual customer orders without our valuable volunteers who gave many hours of their time: Steve Albee, Michelle Bortkowski, Chuck Brumleve, Barb Flanagin, Liz Gerson, Bob Haralson, Ginny Jamison, Dorothy Jamison, Jayney Johnson, Erin Keranen, Wayne Kokkonen, Mark Klemp, Barb Koski, Ann Maclean, Gina Nicholas, Nicky Outinen, Anton Pintar, Jan Reese, Jim Tercha, Pat Toczydlowski, Chris Vandomenen and Nick Wilson.

A special thank you goes to the MSU Extension Service: Mike Schira and Maureen Granat; Houghton County Fair Board Staff: Carol Saari and Houghton County 4-H Coordinator Bertha Rogers for helping with nursery deliveries; Pat's IGA and Shopko Hometown of Calumet and Louie's Foods of Lake Linden for plastic bags; and The Daily Mining Gazette for newspapers and announcements.

Many thanks to everyone who participated in the 2012 Tree Sale.
