Storm says thanks

May 22, 2012
The Daily Mining Gazette

To the editor:

The Keweenaw Storm 19U girls' hockey team would like to say thank you to our entire community for your support in our run for the 2012 National Championship. We couldn't have made it to a national level without the hard work and dedication of our team, but more importantly, we couldn't have done it without the support of our fans, local businesses, and community supporters.

Special thanks to Pat's IGA, Maria and Matt Vertin, Toni's Pasties, Connie's Kitchen, Shopko Hometown and Econo Foods. We are honored by the support of our local fire departments and police stations who escorted us back to town after our state championship in March. Thank you to local radio stations, WKMJ Mix 93.5, the WOLV Wolf 97.7, WHKB KBear 102.3, and the WGLI Rockin' Eagle 98.7 with Mark Wilcox, for your continued coverage during our fundraising efforts.

A round of applause goes out to Mitch Lake of WMPL Radio, who traveled with the team to Texas and kept everyone back home tuned into our games.

Hats off to Brandon Veale and the crew at The Daily Mining Gazette for your sports coverage. Thank you to all who donated their returnables, bought pasties at our pasty sale, and to Nanie Baroni and the crew at Range Bank for hosting a bake sale.

We truly appreciate the Superior National Bank crew and the students of Jeffers High School for "wearing hats" to support our team. Thank you to Scott and Jodi Mikesch and the rest of the Copper Country Oldtimers for your overwhelming support, and thanks to all of you who donated to our team at the Oldtimers Tournament.
