Betty Gasperich

AHMEEK - Betty Gasperich, 78, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away at her home in Ahmeek Sunday, May 20, 2012, following a short illness.

Betty was born Dec. 5, 1933, in Centennial, a daughter of John and Louise (Joskoviac) Beaudoin. She graduated from Calumet High School, Class of 1951 and then attended St. Joseph Hospital for nursing school and Michigan Technological University.

She worked as a nurse, serving as head nurse in Portage Hospital Long Term Care Unit, school nurse at Lake Linden-Hubbell School and at the Health Department in Hancock.

She loved quilting, traveling and camping with her husband, Ernest, in their motor home.

She was an active member of Mohawk United Methodist Church.

In July 1952, she married Arthur Moilanen and he preceded her in death on April 28, 1973. She then married Ernest Gasperich on June 28, 1975, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 16, 2002.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, John Beaudoin; a stepson, Brian Gasperich.

She is survived by four daughters: Vicky (David) Sheffer of Ahmeek, Beth (Roger) Somero of San Jose, Calif., Ann (Bill) Brotherton on Ahmeek and Molly Gasperich of Ault, Colo.; a stepdaughter, MarKay (Douglas) Riippa of Grand Rapids, Mich.; a daughter-in-law, Marquerite Gasperich of Baraga; grandchildren: Michael Dear, Amy Lynn, Roger Somero, Jr., Katie Somero, Paul Somero, Jake Peterson, Luke Simonson, Amanda Simonson, Emily Riippa, Louise Brotherton, Aili Brotherton, Maggie Brotherton, David Brotherton, Philip Brotherton and Ray Brotherton; two great-grandchildren, Megan Dear-Marmee and Mason Lynn two sisters, Janet (Dave) Kellokoski of Utah and Deborah Anderson of Alpena, Mich.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Private family services will be held in the Mohawk-Ahmeek United Methodist Church.

Memorials may be sent to the Mohawk-Ahmeek United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 76, Mohawk, MI 49950.

The Erickson-Crowley Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
